SUP on Holland Lake, MT
Holland Lake, Montana
Bob Marshall Wilderness
- Size: 400 acres
- Max. Depth: 156 ft
- Water Clarity: CRYSTAL clear!
Holland Lake covers 400 acres with great views of the Swan Range. It is located on the western edge of the Bob Marshall Wilderness Area in Montana. There is a lovely campsite with lake access just steps away. We took some time to really explore the shores of this lake, and it was absolutely stunning. Crystal clear waters with very little wind make it the perfect paddling spot. We paddled to a island in the middle of the lake and took out our snorkel gear.
While exploring with the drone, Ben learned a hard lesson (but was very lucky) about how to keep some distance from the trees while flying. A Cedar tree sucked it into its branches some 25 feet above our heads. I was paddling while it happened and when I saw him with a worried look on his face, he said, “I screwed up.” It was a scary moment as we didn’t even know which tree it would be in, but we were able to locate it and Ben climbed to retrieve it. This story ended happily, but we’ll definitely keep our distance from the trees!
There are trails all around Holland Lake with one that will lead to Holland Falls (about 3.5 miles round trip). The trails can be pretty busy with people, but we were able to do an early morning hike to beat the crowd.
