Paddle North Paddlers on Cuyuna

About Cuyuna.

Abandoned by mining companies more than 30 years ago, this area of former mining pits and rock deposit stockpiles now boasts regenerated vegetation and clear lakes that are some of the best to paddle in Minnesota. The area boasts twenty-five miles of natural shoreline and anglers can cast a line for trout, northern, bass, crappie, or sunfish.

Cuyuna - Paddle North

Paddle North Paddles Cuyuna.

Matt, John, Kevin and I took the Paddle North fleet up North to see if the area lived up to it's hype -- it certainly did. Beautiful, crystal clear lakes that are filled with all types of things to see, both under water and above. We brought our gopro to take some interesting underwater shots:

Cuyuna - Paddle North

10'6'' Loon paddling through school of Minnows.

Minnows swarmed our GoPro.

It was also the inaugural flight of our new DJI phantom 4 drone. We were able to get some really neat perspectives of the water from the air.

Cuyuna mine pits

Really neat trees and plants are visible from atop the board.

Cuyuna - Paddle North at True North Basecamp

When we were finally pulled off the water, we crashed at True North Basecamp. The cabin was right on the water, had four comfortable beds and was super clean. Wifi, electricity, running water and showers all included -- everything you need to regroup for the next day.

SUP Frisbee

We spent a full two days on the water, Kevin even brought a frisbee so we played a little SUP Frisbee.

Paddle North Loon

A real Loon was nice enough to pose for a picture, he wouldn't let us get much closer.

Stand with us:

At Paddle North, we offer free demos of our boards -- on any lake in the Twin Cities! If you want to try out a paddle board, give me a call 612-978-5992 or email at peter@paddlenorth.com.
